![]() UAB was an early leader in sleep medicine, receiving our first accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in 1986. We use a team approach that combines the expertise of multiple medical specialties, including internal medicine, pulmonology, otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat, or ENT), and surgery. UAB Medicine provides complete treatment for sleep-related disorders. Your results are then evaluated by our multidisciplinary team that includes professionals from Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Services, Heart & Vascular Services, Neurosciences, and Pulmonary Services. Testing for sleep disorders is covered by most insurance plans, and a referral isn’t needed unless required by your insurance provider. Both daytime and overnight sleep studies are individualized to your needs, and the diagnostic process is easy and painless. At the end of your clinic visit, if it is determined that you need sleep testing, it will be scheduled at a later date that is convenient for you. Your evaluation usually begins with a visit to the Sleep Center, where your case is evaluated by our professional staff. ![]() UAB Medicine’s Sleep/Wake Disorders Center, conveniently located at UAB Hospital-Highlands, provides advanced testing, diagnosis, and treatment of sleep disorders in a relaxed, casual setting specially designed for your comfort and well-being. Our 10-bed facility features tranquil, comfortable rooms with a homelike atmosphere, each with a queen-sized Tempur-Pedic mattress. ![]() Routine medication refills and controlled substance prescriptions are not filled after hours.ATTENTION: Recall on ventilators, BiPAP, and CPAP Machines. The on-call provider is available to respond to medically urgent questions and recommend appropriate action. If you need urgent medical assistance after business hours, please call 20 and you will be instructed how to reach the physician or provider on call. Mon-Fri: 8:00am-5:00 pm (except holidays) Most insurance companies will not approve referrals retroactively. If your insurance requires a referral before seeing a specialist, you must be evaluated by your primary care physician prior to being referred. Routine follow-up appointments are generally available in 2-3 weeks annual physicals and/or gynecological exams are normally available in 4-6 weeks. We strive to provide urgent care the same day or within 24 hours. Our patients are seen by appointment only. All of our UAB specialists are available for further specialized testing and consultations. Family Medicine encourages medical students to observe and participate to better understand Family Medicine in a hands-on, natural environment. The Family Medicine team at UAB is comprised of board-certified family physicians who provide total and preventive care. Our patient-friendly, and all-inclusive services, including on-site labs and radiology testing, ensure comprehensive and compassionate care for the whole family with “one stop.” The Family Medicine Clinic is conveniently located at UAB-Highlands, 4 th floor, to better assist patients’ needs and provide optimal primary care for people of all ages.
